SCTMQG Meeting July 11, 2026

*Announced that a secretary is needed for the next 6 months.  Leslie will be out for personal reasons.  Address was given to members and can also be found in the Member Roster. 

 

*Thank you, card was passed for members to sign, for the donation of an Accu-cut with dyes from Yankee Quilter. 

 

*Reminder given to members that Extended Sew was changed from September to October. 

 

*Fat Quarter Fun – fat quarters were collected from members in exchange for tickets.  Brenda and Nelson happily passed out raffle tickets.  Winner of all the fat quarters collected will be announced later in the meeting. 

 

*The Sit and Stitch crew is off for the summer.  The Weston Library time slots for July and August will be used to assemble the MQG blue block QuiltCon quilt. Dates and times are Tuesday, July 28 from 10-1 and Tuesday, August 25 from 6-9pm.  Two kids are left if anyone needs one. 

 

*More kits are available to sew purses for the Sew-Powerful Purse project.  Pick up a kit and a strap today during the meeting.  Please remember not to use the following on the purses as they are inappropriate in the Zambian culture:  owls, bats, cats and hyenas. 

 

*When does art become politics?  Art is a medium for self-expression.  We have the freedom to express ourselves through the art we make.  As a 501c3, we cannot be a political entity.  Discussion was held. 

 

*If anyone has guild equipment, please let officers know so the items can be placed on a list. 

 

*Nancy presented the Treasurer’s report.  (am assuming y’all got the card from Nancy with the numbers) 

 

  

*Fall Retreat is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, October 3-4, 9-5. At this point, there are 2 Sunday only spots.  Please bring in any donations for prizes to the August and September meetings and the fee money for the retreat by next week. 

 

*Dawn gave a rundown of Programming events which include the Nature Challenge block “What Do I See in Nature,” due in September; Mushroom class presented by Toni at the August meeting and the on-line zoom class by Rachel Derstine in November. Programming is in the process of cutting purse kits. 

 

*Announcement – Karen Carvallo’s mother passed away.   

 

*Suzanne announced that Sit and Stitch will resume September 28, 10-1. 

Meetings alternate between day and evening meetings, every other month. Sign-up sheet passed around for possible Ellen Fluckinger class. There would be a $10 fee.  Squircle quilt was presented to members made by the Sit and Stitch attendees. 

 

*Tait has joined Suzanne on the charity committee.  Suzanne shared that the committee now has 26 pillowcases that will go to Elizabeth Seton Home for Children, Connecticut Children’s Hospital and 6 completed quilts for Columbus House.  Burrito pillowcase instructions can be found online.  

 

*Kate announced prizes will be given for number of purses that are handed in.
