[IN.B. If you haven’t been to the website recently, the member’s landing page, akin to a bulletin board, has a great summary re Guild activities.]
Applique Group (Weston Library large meeting room) August 26, 6 – 9pm. Nominally, start is at 6:30 but most have been arriving closer to 6pm.
The Corded Bowl Class with Mary Cannizzaro will follow September’s meeting. Payment for class immediately needed. Bring $25 cash for class supplies. If you anticipate wanting more materials from the Instructor, bring more cash.
Guild Fall Retreat Sept 20 and 21 9am-5pm at the Courtyard Marriott, Westport, $150.00 pp due mid-August. DO NOT BRING AN IRON FROM HOME (that is, let’s avoid an electrical outage). Two shareable ironing stations will be set up. Each person will have a table. Room for 20 people.
Please note: November’s meeting will be on Nov 15, instead of Nov 8th. (On the 8th, the library will be busy with their annual book sale and the room will not be available.) It will be an extended sew meeting. Your choice of what to do & what to bring including drink/food if you will need it.
POP of COLOR quilt show at the Kellogg Center went very well. Liason Susan Quincy feels the show was a great success. Both sides found it easy to work together. Therefore, the Guild will sponsor the show again in 2026. This year 89 quilts were shown.
SUPER THANKS TO:
· Sue O for arranging that SCTMQG was the sponsor for the show this year.
· All the volunteers who sat under the tent to welcome visitors and represent the Guild especially, MVP Karen, who represented the Guild all four days.
· Kate for running the Quilt Carpool and Terrie assisting as well for quilt return.
· Special call out to Brenda for an excellent presentation about the technical history of the sewing machine, citing inventors, rivalries, and accompanying socio-economic changes traceable to the sewing machine. Not only did it enable more efficient garment making but also led to related industries, jobs and improved lives of workers. By the way, did you know Waterbury Button Company began in 1812 (making buttons for military uniforms) and the town has a button museum? https://waterburybutton.com/about/; https://www.mattmuseum.org/collections/waterbury-button-museum/
Nominating Committee
· The Guild year ends along with the calendar year with potential change to leadership roles for Board & Committees.
· Please be thinking about volunteering for a Board or Committee Position for 2026. Speak with the incumbent if you have questions about the role. Committees include: Programming (meets monthly, needs someone with computer skills):
o Charitable Works,
o Social Media,
o Retreats,
o Applique.
· Best case is to have two people on each Committee as it is nice to have someone to work with, and to lighten the load.
· Nominations will be submitted in October followed by the vote in December.
Charity – Site visit to Columbus House was positive and it will become the focus of Guild charitable efforts. The charity focuses on the unhoused including individuals, families, veterans, and respite (post-hospital care). The guild committee was impressed. Sheree DiMario of Columbus House will visit the Guild in November to share information and answer questions.
Charity Tally for 2025:
· 15 quits to Homes for Homeless
· 7 quilts to victims of California Fires
· 10 quilts to Columbus House.
· Lots of pillowcases. Keep ‘em coming.
Brenda has about half left of one 30 yd roll of batting (93” wide) and fabric bolts for backs. If needed for a Charity Quilt, please contact her.
Westport Guild Show – Quilts with a Story
Show organization is moving along apace. Having received Gees Bend blocks for the quilt collaboration, they have been put together. There will be an inner border of teal encircled by the Guild’s blocks serving as border.
Wendy will quilt it and Suzanne bind it. Subsequently, the Westport Magazine will photograph the quilt and a blogger Dan Woog, will run a story (his blog is 06880). If you have a media connection, please let Terrie know so the show information will reach them at the right time.
Smaller quilts such as lap / baby / art are appropriate for the show space. Large quilts will not fit.
Please let Terrie know if you have a quilt for the Guild Show in Westport. This supports organizing what hangs where.
If you have a media contact, please share name, phone number and email to help spread the word.

AQS Juried Show the weekend April 8-11, 2026 in Hartford. The Modern division needs more quilts – Deadline Nov 6. Send 2 photos by Nov; one of the full quilt, one of a 12” section to show detail. https://www.americanquilter.com/quiltweek/aqs-quilt-contests/
People who attended previously note that AQS members get preference for classes which sell out all but immediately. Attending lectures is highly recommended as an alternative. Last year’s keynote by Hillary Goodwin (entropyalwayswins.com), ER Doc, was phenomenal.
