March 14, 2026 Meeting Notes


Revised Bylaws were sent last month for review; voting in the meeting showed 19 YEA votes and additional 3 on Zoom for a total of 22 YEA votes.


Pop of Color Quilt show: Unknown sponsor this year. 

  • Theme is “Quilting Out Loud” 

  • Deadline July 20 to register, July 27 quilt drop off (confirm with Susan Quincy in Derby)

  • Dates: July 30-August 2 

  • Reception/lecture by Tammi Williams “Crafting Family Stories” Aug 2 at 4 pm. 


Member Announcement:

  • Please donate clean, full size FQ to the FQ basket

  • Fabric, complete tools, complete notions, templates, rulers, and such can go to Brenda Phelps or Terrie Langer for the retreats. 

  • Fabrics can also be donated to Terrie for purse or pillowcase kits.(27”, 9”, and 2.5” WOF strips for pillowcases)

  • Scraps can also go on the meeting swap table, or save for December swap.

  • Smaller than 2.5” scraps to CarolAnne Keely for dog beds

  • Retake Remake in Peekskill NY

  • Check if your local Senior Center wants scraps. 


Treasurer Report

  • Current balance $14,864.29 (included funds held to pay for Spring Retreat)

  • Uncashed Checks (outstanding) $374.77

  • NET current balance: $10,969.52 (once Spring Retreat is paid $3,520 for 15 attendees)

    • Expected upcoming expenses: 

      • $800 for MQG dues for 40 members

      • Re-imburse for SewPowerful supplies


Ice Breaker verbal exercise

  • Name, Role in Guild, Color that inspires you, Color not in your Stash, Favorite genre of book.


GUEST: Caroline Mason, daughter of Lisa Mason, former member

  • Art Therapist working at Elizabeth Seton Children’s Center.

  • 169 Residents; conditions from Traumatic Brain Injury to genetic disorder.

  • Short term rehab and long-term care; 98% are wheelchair bound.

  • 3 “School” campus centers; PT/OT Speech/Rehab integrated into each day. 

  • 17 classrooms, 8 “neighborhoods” of kids.

  • Developmental and mental range; many are aware of their environment and all provided with “typical” experiences and outings as much as possible. Highlighting what the kids CAN do. 

  • Parent and sibling sewing classes available to families. 

  • Pillowcase Shop- where our donations go

  • Kids select pillowcases; they also use 8- 10 in PT and OT spaces. 

  • Future of facility:

    • Opening in White Plains for 18-21+ year olds needing permanent care; 96 bed facility.


  • SCTMQG gifted approximately 60 pillowcases to Caroline; many from fabric from her mother’s estate. 


Spring Retreat Update:

  • May 14-17, 3 nights $360, single rooms, shared bath, all food included.  15 spots available and all are taken, 11 by Guild members.

  • We will need to decide right after this retreat if we will hold the spot for another retreat next year and pay a deposit. 


Sit and Stitch Group Update:

  • It has been 1 year that the group has met. 

  • Alternates day and evening meetings, as per schedule online. 

  • 5-6 people regularly attend. 

  • Suzanne McGovern is seeking feedback about dates, nights, or should it be in summer only?


Programming Update:

  • 250th USA celebration blocks are due today. 

  • Nelson Salsa donated white sashing fabric.

  • Spring Social gift Exchange in May; Bookmark for “secret person” (icebreaker was for info and ideas)

  • Round Robin- Reveal at May Spring Social

  • New: Upcycled Round Robin starting in June 2026

    • Consider old clothes, sheets, scraps, etc. Please stabilize knits if used.  

    • voluntary, work on block, pass it on, reveal in May 2027.

  • Challenge due at June Meeting

    • 18” block “something in the Air”

  • Summer challenge TBA

  • Virtual class October/ November possibility- Caroline Oneto, Rachel Derstine

    • Felted Landscape interest- from Lin Elmo

  • Group vote for October/ November online class; no majority


Charity Update

  • WOF 30”, 10”, 3” for pillowcases appreciated.
